Our Story

In 2002 Lydia Stern decided to turn her long-time love of bead hoarding and jewelry making into a full time career. She opened Beadlush in a small retail space in Charlotte, North Carolina, with the dream to sell enough beads, to go out and buy more beads. Her first customers found a nice selection of natural and glass beads (many of which were directly from Lydia’s own coveted bead collection), as well as a great selection of tools and findings.

In the fall of 2004, Beadlush was able to move the short distance of one block to a new old home in Plaza Midwood, only a block away from the first location and with an extra 1000 ft or so. Eight years later, the opportunity arose to move into an even more impressive space directly across the street, at 1212 The Plaza. A fabulous old church building that offers up fantastic light through great big beautiful windows. We’re proud to be going strong for over a decade as Central Charlotte’s premier bead store, and we look forward to serving all your beading needs in the years to come! Twelve years later, the collection of unique beads and hard to find findings has grown exponentially.

Lydia’s experience in the beading world spans both the retail and wholesale bead industries as well as designing and selling custom jewelry. Lydia’s product knowledge, In addition to her penchant for offering a broad inventory at a fair price, helped to quickly create the best bead shop in town!
